I’ve been a Nathan Fillion fan for quite a while. Ever since Firefly, I was really impressed by his acting. Since he is starring in a new series named Castle, I took it upon myself to watch it weekly.

Anyway, what do I like about Castle? Well it stars an obnoxious, womanizing novelist. Detective Kate Beckett is a closet hottie, played by Stana Katic. Her hotness is kind of hard to explain. The actress is quite hot, but in Castle, she toned it down. She doesn’t wear much makeup and favors a natural look, kind of like “Oh I’m hot, but I could be the girl next door, BTW, FYI, I’m still smoking hot.” That’s how I described her in my mind. She’s kind of got the ex-catwalk model look going for her, which is quite good.

So that’s a good point. Plus she’s Canadian and a good actress. That’s always a good combination.

Warning: spoilers ahead

The show centers around a novelist who is brought in to help deal with a string of murders which seem to be taken from the pages of his novels. At the same time, Castle has hit massive writer’s block after killing off the hero of his mystery book franchise, Derek Storm. Through Beckett, he is able to write once again.

Halfway between a drama and a romantic comedy, Castle is a fun show to watch. The characters play around a lot, making the viewer wonder when or if they will ever get together. It didn’t take Castle long to find out what makes Beckett tick. He uses clues and his imagination deftly.

ABC has started to release chapters of Richard Castle’s new book Heat Wave on its website. They are up to chapter 8 and I haven’t started yet, but it’s a pretty cool tie-in to the show.

A maid discovers a dead man. Alex tells Castle to lose his new character based on his rival for Beckett’s affections, Detective Demming.

Beckett calls. They have a case. The vic was shot and then used a bat on head because the bullet missed. The vic was Damian Wilder. He runs a boutique for men’s beauty products. He makes shaving cream that comes hot out of the can. The message in blood said “Murder”. The last letter was illegible.

Something was stolen. The thief wrote a message in the vic’s blood. The neighbour saw someone hopping over the yard at 10:52. Castle arrives at the station and finds Demming involved once again in their case.

The display cases contained some first edition books. His friend helped him out secure some insurance. He also says that Damian had his kitchen renovated. The kitchen was crawling with workers for weeks. 3 days ago, Wilder filed a complaint. Someone poured red paint all over his stoop. It’s to do with animal rights activists. Even though his products were labelled not tested on animals, a sub-contractor did so. Wilder wasn’t aware of this.

In his datebook, they find a lot of appointments with Natasha. Demming comes up with Jake Cabrese. Two of the apartments he renovated were robbed. Castle finds the likely suspect for the paint incident. They talk with him. He admits to vandalizing Wilder’s home. He also heard Wilder arguing with a woman. The animal rights activist has got an alibi. Wilder and Natasha Piper started dating. Calabrese has got an alibi. Demming and Beckett leave together.

Piper comes in the next day. She says that he got exactly what he deserved. He was cheating on her. She followed him to a motel in Jersey on Thursday morning. They check out the motel. Benny, the guy at the motel, has gone missing. Benny’s roommate says that he came home from his shift, packed a bag and left in a hurry. Demming finds that Wilder’s books have been spotted on a crooked book dealer’s site. Demming and Wilder interrogate him. He says that he bought them from some guy on a park from a homeless guy. He hasn’t got an alibi. Castle sees Beckett and Demming eye-flirting and going to check on the homeless guy.

Esposito says that only one call came into the room. It came from Wilder’s company. He was having an affair with someone at work. Beckett and Demming come back with the homeless guy. He found the books in a garbage bin. Someone tossed them. The homeless guy has got a solid alibi. The animal activist identifies Lisa Jenkins as the girl Damian was having an affair. The guy who was dumping his books was Wilder’s cousin Blake.

Jenkins admits to arguing with him at his place. The gun comment had to do with the animal rights protest. She doesn’t have an alibi. She has got means to get to Wilder’s place. Demming picks up Blake. He hasn’t got an alibi. In the middle of their timeline, Blake was withdrawing some money at an ATM. Jenkins also came back from moving her car within the time window, 10:34-10:52PM. So it’s got to be both or none of them.

They picked up Benny in Atlantic City. He IDs Wilder as the man who asked about who rented the room. Benny has got a Damian Wilder bag. He found it in the room. Inside it, he found money. He found $75K. He blew it all in the last 3 days. This adds up to blackmail. Wilder was getting blackmailed. He must have put the money under the bed. Benny picked up the money before the blackmailer could. She must have killed him. Benny IDs Rebecca, one of the lab techs as the girl who rented the room.

They talk with her. They were using some kind of chemical compound in Wilder’s products. It can cause capillary damage in long term use. She blackmailed Wilder. She says that she has the money. The money that Benny found is for another payoff. Both Blake and Jenkins have motive, but not the means.

Beckett figures out who killed him. The timeline is wrong. Both Blake and Jenkins were involved. Jenkins shot him and started painting Murder in blood. The second killer came to bludgeon Wilder but he didn’t know that he was already dead. Wilder was about to announce the recall of his product. They trace money to Jenkins and Blake. They were both going to pay off Rebecca. Wilder got killed twice.

Castle sees Beckette and Demming kissing.

This kind of sounds like the producers are giving themselves an out for if the show isn’t going to be renewed next season.
